Rei turned around and saw that another member of the military was coming their way. Judging by Zayden's response to him, he was higher ranking. "Hm, this could turn out interesting."

Zane blinked and smiled slightly. "At ease, little guy," he said and glanced at the girl. "But I'm no one important. You looked amusing, that's the only reason why I'm here."

Zayden's shoulders slumped and he looked disappointed.

Rei covered her mouth to hide her smile. Zayden looked devastated and the other man looked amused. "If you two wish, I can leave so you can have some privacy."

Zane smiled at the girl. "You don't have to, miss. But I would like to borrow him for a bit; I will return him to you." He then turned to the military boy. "Don't look so disappointed, little guy. I do have something to tell you. Aren't you out to get some apples?"

Rei raised her eyebrows. "Apples?"

"He and I were just going to my house for those," Rei offered, watching Zayden's reaction to the mention of apples. "I'll be over here to wait." That said, she walked over to the book stall she had spotted earlier and began going through the books, though she hoped she was close enough to hear the conversation.

Zayden tried to keep his enthusiasm hidden but it burst through and he smiled at the man, nodding fiercely.

"Yes sir, I was trying to find apples." He motioned towards Rei as she explained what he was getting ready to say, nodding even more.

"Why, is there a problem, sir?"

Zane turned his back to the girl, pretty sure she was trying to eavesdrop. He lowered his voice and whispered as hush as he could to the young lad. "I would like to ask help from you, you see. I've heard you're one hell of a computer specialist; but we can talk about this more after your date with that miss," he smiled. "By the way, he likes apples that are still a bit green. Don't worry about it being... degrading. He does that to everyone."

Rei narrowed her eyes then shrugged. The newcomer was smart enough to keep his messages private. "Not that I care. The military means nothing to me."

Feeling better about himself, Zayden smiled. "Sure, I'd love to help you, sir!" And he honestly did. If he could, he would marry a computer. He lowered his voice as well before saying, "Thank you."

Turning to Rei, he said, "Now, how about those apples?"

He smiled at the military boy, who looked ecstatic. "Zayden, right? I'll tag along, but I'll be somewhere in a distance. I don't really want to ruin your date."

Finally, he looked at the girl and smiled. "Sorry for that, miss...? Sorry I didn't quite catch your name."

"Rei," she said, inclining her head to the man. She grabbed shifted the basket on her arm and smiled politely. "Apples are in my bookstore. Shall we go there, then?"

Zayden blushed. "Date?" He echoed, blinking. "We're not on a date." He muttered nervously.

He nodded to Rei, suddenly not able to meet her gaze, and stared down at his feet. "Yes, lets."

Zane blinked and almost laughed. "My bad. You looked as if you two were," he fixed his cap and said, "Anyway... Miss Rei, please lead the way."

Rei laughed at Zayden's sudden embarrassment. "Yes, sir," she mocked, a crooked grin on her face.
