"Me? Nah," he said, pocketing his hands. "I like living the carefree life. I only accept jobs when I feel like it. Or if they accept to pay me the ridiculous amount I ask of them. Or when I find it interesting enough. I don't do it for the military or for any alliance. I do jobs for my own interest."

He stared at the back of her head. "Perhaps that's where we differ?"

Dwyrin stopped walking. "That's not quite true. I'm very interested in my work." She turned to face Zane. "I accept jobs I don't always want because they usually come with unforseen perks. I refuse the obscene amounts of money I am offered in exchange for something much more important. So you see, maybe we're not that different," she finished, now grinning.

He smiled. "I wasn't saying you weren't interested in your work. I'm mainly doing this because I get bored," he said. "But I would rather not refuse the money."

Zane laughed anyway. "But I guess, you're right. Maybe we're not so different then."

He smiled. "Thanks but," he ruffled his own hair. "I prefer keeping to myself like this."

Then there was an earthquake.

The sudden, violent shaking made her legs collapse from under her. "What the-?!" She heard banging and rumbling in the distance and wondered what was collapsing around them. The flowers and bushes created a wall they couldn't see over or around from where they were. She watched as a near-by bench skittered across the path, and decided to stay sitting until this intensity passed, at least.

Zane tried to stay standing, keeping his balance, though it was a struggle.
a few more seconds and it passed.

And when he looked around, the layout changed. Tall walls of walls made out of flowers and thick shrubbery surrounded them. Almost... as if they were in a maze.

He looked at Dwyrin who was on the floor and walked towards her in a hurry. "Are you okay?"

But he looked around, just looked around, trying to see if there was anything suspicious.

"I'm good," she replied. She surveyed the scene around her with the efficiency of long practice then looked back at Zane. "We don't really have many options do we??"

The bench barred the path. Stepping nimbly over it - it looked too heavy to want to push - she walked to an intersection in the paths and glanced each way. "How could this have happened??"

"Seems like it," he replied and followed her, keeping close to the wall of shrubberies. Touching it, he pushed on it - it was rather solid for some leaves and flowers.

"And all of a sudden too, hm?" he took his dagger and tried to cut the wall. It did, only to regenerate a second after. "What the hell..."

Dwyrin had looked back just in time to see the plant grow back together. Not being able to think of any better reaction, she said to him the first thing that came to mind. "There could be worse ways to spend your free time than in a mutant flower garden-maze with me, right??"

What she said made him look at her in an instant, blinking. A small smile broke then came laughter. "This could be my new hobby then," he joked.

"Remind me to find you when I'm bored. Interesting things happen."

His laugh was infectious, and she let out a small one of her own before looking back down their choice of paths. There didn't seem to be any danger about, so she took the path to the right. "I'm not sure if I'd call this interesting. Confusing, though... What do you think happened??"

He just followed her, not really minding where to go. It wasn't so bad, anyway, and walking would be a good exercise for now.

"No idea, honestly," he said. "It never did this before. To think my sister and I have been coming here since we were kids too."

Tosh walked into the park, a cheery mood about her. She sat down on the bench and took out a pouch of cookies she earned again today, eating them.

"Is that so?? And nothing strange happens??" she said trying to conceal her slight excitement at getting personal information from him without extreme prying. "Do you think we can climb it??"

He shook his head. "No," he replied. "As far as I know, anyway." But there was a huge time gap since I visited this place the last time.

Zane looked at the plant ledge. "Can't be too sure. Wanna try?"

She considered climbing the bushes and remembered the self-healing leaf. What sort of other things had happened to the greenery around here?? She wasn't sure she was willing to try.

"I'm perfectly content to just walk around and try to find an exit, for now. You??"

"I... am not feeling up to battle with some plants," he said, dejected. Who knows what those things could do? They could regenerate so until he knew what was up, he was definitely not going to try anything funny. "It wouldn't be cool to lose to some flowers," he smiled.

The smell of the cookies faded, and a sense of foreboding intruded on her senses.

"I-" she paused not sure what it was that had alarmed her. She didn't hear anything besides birds chirping. And the only thing to see was flowers. Lot's of huge, regenerating flowers that smelled like... rotting meat...??

The normally strong, flowery scent was slightly underlaid with the stench of something putrid. It was as if, she thought, something dead was not too far away.

"I smell something," she stated, looking at the man beside her.
