Kotaro gulped. Identity check. He allowed the man to escort him. Few outside, a lot inside. If this is a few then it must be hectic inside. I wonder...

He escorted the man in the interrogation room. "Your name?" he asked when Kotaro was seated.

Kotaro tried to look innocent. “Lu Xin.” The man had his wallet on him, which Kotaro had gone through. now he just needed to remember it all.

"Lu Xin?" he blinked. "That's a new name - who is this?"

Then one guard stepped up. "Lu Xin's in my platoon; he's new - fresh out just yesterday." The previous guard kept silent, thinking. Before long, he grunted and waved it off. "Make sure you keep your newbies informed; and keep an eye on him. I'm still suspicious."

All seemed well and they were preparing to get back to post when the head guard turned to Kotaro. "I'll keep an eye on you too - remove your balaclava."

Kotaro hesitated then complied. The hair and eyes were practicaly the same thankfully if not longer hair. Kotaro moved his hair to cover the scar over his right eye. “To your expectations sir?”

"You look younger," the platoon head said. "Did you eat a mermaid's flesh?"

The head guard shook his head. "Get to your post now."

Kotaro nodded. "Sir!" He headed back to where he had found the the guard. He had to check on his bonds anyway. This one is new, so I may get away with some confusion, but I shouldn't egg it on. He reached the guard and checked the bonds. They still held tight. "Might as well check if there's anything useful in this uniform." He started to search the pockets, pulling out a paper portraying his post orders. "This should help." He read it carefully. In another 10 minutes he was to be relieved and trade places with another new guard who worked inside guarding the party. Well, that will get me inside, but not to the staff. He quickly hid the guard in a nearby bush, covering him with dirt and branches. He had injected another tranquilizer in him. Now to wait.

Ten minutes has yet to passed when... "Lu Xin!" a guard approached him. "The scepter has been stolen!"

Kotaro turned quickly, his eyes wide. "Stolen?" Who could have stolen it? "Do we know who or where the thief is?"

Kinai was on an eagles view close to the palace. He hada little telescope out viewing the area and looking and mapping out the guards and snipers "why so many guards today?" He asked himself. He hasn't seen this many guards since he was here as a little kid with his father

The guard shook his head. "No," he said. "All the guards are in high alert - but it cannot be leaked out to the guests. The emperor is being informed now."

The guard shook his head again. "We wouldn't be in such riot if we knew, right? It's heavily guarded, but it's like it just disappeared."

Kotaro looked at the guard. “What about the guest's? What if one them is the thief. And the sewers, could the thief had got in through there?”

"Negative," he said. "All the guests are in the lounge; the scepter is in a safe, with four guards standing in all four directions guarding it. When one looked to check, it was gone - disappeared!"

Kotaro squinted his eyes in deep thought. "How big was the safe, and was there anything else in there?" He had to take everything into account.

"The safe is huge," he said. "But the guards were IN the safe with the scepter too."

Kotaro scratched his chin through the balaclava. "If the scepter was in the center of the safe, it could easily be defended." Kotaro had no clue who took it or how, but needed to find out quick.

The guard nodded. "Yes," he turned to leave. "I have to go; do your best to find it and don't let any of the guest know. A panic is that last thing we need."

An hour has passed but the scepter was still nowhere in sight. No one still have a clue on who stole it either.

Kotaro paced angrily. “The gurds inside the safe were secluded. No one could see them. Maybe they all took it.” Kotaro looked toward the palace.

It was already 1 am. Time was running out and nobody still knew what happened or where the scepter is.

Kotaro began to walk toward the palace. If the staff was watched by those four, they had to be interrogated by now. If they were in on it together, they would have stashed it somewhere. I should also ask if anyone suddenly left before the staff disappeared or after. If not, the thief is still here.

Kotaro walked up to the entrance, still watched by guards. "I need inside. I need to talk to the commander."

"For?" the guard asked, looking at Kotaro's uniform. "If you have no information on the scepter, you may not. The commander's busy."
