Q and Yoyo

A small town in the outskirts of Creta, close to the border of Amestris. The town has a roughly small population and is surrounded by woods. People will travel through the town on their way to Amestris but it is not a place that many people choose to stay in. The population is friendly to outsiders, for their economy is dependent on the extra cash that the occasional traveler brings in.

Ace was so psyched after he spotted the town in the distance. His run couldn't be stopped by the terrain as he charged into town. After days of being lost in the Amestris wilderness this vessel of hope was more than he could hope for. He hadn't eaten in so long. He was so tired.

Rei sat under a tree in the small grassy area the small town used for a park. She had her nose in a book, absorbed in the words. She had been there for several hours, completely forgetting about food until her stomach rudely informed her it was empty. She sighed and closed her book and made her way to the small home she was staying at while in the town.

Ace crawled out of the bushes that had separated him from civilization and sighed. He had finally made it to the small town he had spotted a while ago. His energy had immediately sapped after his run and he had definitely not realized just how far away it was. But he had made it. He waved to the people who were staring at the foreign man and smiled at them. "Hello!" he shouted.

People quickly backed away from him and he frowned. "Jerks."

Rei smiled politely to the people she passed on the way to the house. She did her best to keep her stomach from making obnoxious noises, but she managed to arrive at her destination without insulting anybody. She pushed the door open and entered, wondering momentarily if the owner was home at this time of day. She was not, but that only made it more comfortable for her to prepare food.

"Please? Food!" Ace begged to a passerbyer. He may of found a town, but no one seemed interested in helping the random beggar who just crawled out of the woods.

Ace spun around and saw another woman walking by carrying some baskets. He jumped down before her and grabbed her by the leg. "Please feed me, please!"

Rei found some fruit and the materials to make a small meal quickly. She tucked an apple in a coat pocket and walked back out to her tree to continue reading her book.

After spending a long time pestering and annoying people he had finally found some people who were willing to give him a basket of bread. He gobbled down the food and sighed. After such a long journey he literally could not think of how happy he was after he had filled his stomach. "Thank goodness," he said to the towns people who were trying to avoid the dirty man. "Now, to clean up."

Rei sat back down under the tree and read her book. Her stomach demanded that she eat, so she did remember to eat every so often, but it was a slow process. Just as she was pulling out the apple to munch on, she heard shouts coming from the dusty path that led to the area. She looked up, interested, but did not move.

Ace had paid a young man to let him borrow his shower for about ten minutes. He had been smart to save that money for the shower, instead of on food. He felt better and after rinsing out and cleaning his clothes he walked back out into town fresh and ready for the day. He saw a path wandering away from the town and there was a nice landscape here. He just wondered what he was going to do while there.

Three children came running down the path, squealing and shouting as they chased each other. They seemed to be playing tag, though one kept stopping to kick at dust piles with his bare feet. Rei smiled and turned back to her book, amused by the children, but not enough to distract her from her book.

Ace started searching through his pack to see what he had with him. He had been pretty sure he'd dropped some stuff on his way here from Amestris. Luckily, it seemed he still had all his weapons and his equipment. Sadly, his map and his clothes were gone. "Just great," Ace said. His eyes caught sight of a Cretan woman and he smiled. "Well, hello."

The sound of crying drew Rei out of her book. She looked up to see one of the children, a small girl, sitting on the ground crying. The other two children stood next to her, looking unsure. A small patch of blood was apparent on the girl's knee. Rei smiled slightly and stood and walked over to the children.

She pulled a napkin from her pocket and cleaned the scrape as best she could and wrapped it. "You need to clean it," she said softly, hoping the girl understood her. She was awful with languages. The child smiled and nodded, but hopped up and poked one of her friends before running away from him. Rei shook her head. "Children," she said, amused.

Ace heard the sound of a small child crying not too far away. As much as he wanted to win this young lady's heart he knew that he was needed elsewhere. He bounced off away from town and spotted a few kids playing. He waved over to them. He loved kids. Except the idea of having them. Not good. When he looked up he saw a young lady reading a book. "Well, well," Ace smiled. "Time to get my game on."

Rei continued to read her book, only vaguely aware that someone else had entered the area. She figured that if something was going to go wrong, the children would notice quickly enough and raise the alarm.

Ace gathered the kids around him and smiled. He had a plan. After a moment he had wow'd the kids with a magic trick that was really just simple alchemy. He looked up and hoped that his move had caught the interest of the lady sitting by the tree.

Rei noted that the newcomer had gone over and joined the children, but hardly cared. They were quieter now for the most part, squealing with delight instead of screaming in play.

Ace frowned. The woman hadn't looked up from her book. He realized that that approach may not of worked, so he'd have to try something a bit more direct. Ace walked over to the woman. "What book are you reading there? I am an avid reader."

[Yoyo]

Rei froze as the newcomer's words pierced her brain. She managed to keep from reacting more than to grip her book tighter. "The Book of Sun," she responded. "You've probably never heard of it."

Ace pondered for a moment. No, he was pretty sure he hadn't read that book. Her voice sounded familiar, too. A slight chill had overcome him, in fact. What a strange situation he had found himself in. "Well, that's okay, what's it about?" Ace asked.

[Yoyo]

"Magic," Rei replied curtly. She silently hoped he would go away and leave her alone. The children seemed to have forgotten Ace and were again playing their games, squealing and shouting. "I kind of feel like shouting, myself."

"Magic?" Ace asked. He himself was curious about magic. He looked over the book and jumped back. "Oh, it's you."

He stood up and brushed himself off. He had gone through all this trouble for her. That did not make him happy.

"Yes, it's me," Rei sighed. She closed her book and looked up at the man. "Why are you in Creta? It's hardly somewhere you would just go for a vacation."

"Oh man, that is a long story," Ace laughed to himself as he thought about it. It had been a long week.

"Let's just say, I got lost on the path of life," Ace smiled then frowned as he remembered who he was talking to. "And what are you doing here?"

[Yoyo]

"Yes, of course it's a long story. You can't be simple, can you?"

"I'm here on business," Rei said, shrugging. "I rarely go anywhere if it's not for business."

"How much business does a book store owner need to do in foreign countries?" Ace asked Rei. "Unless you run a secret underground business, don't you?"

Ace looked around and realized the kids had disappeared. He looked back to the town and saw that the people had for the most vanished, too. "Where'd everyone go?"
