Zane blinked. These people are too serious. "Don't do what, Des?" he asked, not looking back at him and continued watching.
"Didn't I say I had no intentions of fighting? Provoke me and I might, though. But isn't that a stupid move?" he smiled at Dwyrin.

"Perhaps. But, should we just take your word for it?? We did just walk downstairs to see you drinking with the man who seems to want us dead," she pointed out, not lowering her aim.

Des made it to the top of the stairs and turned around. He stared at Zane and his gaze focused over to Dwyrin and Rei. He frowned and walked away.

"We will meet again, under different circumstances I hope."

"What do you want?" Rei asked, her vision beginning to clear somewhat. "We hardly came here to hurt you guys."

Drinking? Had you not come, I may have. He shrugged.
"I don't need you to believe me but if he wanted to kill you, that's his business. My only business is money," really though, he was getting tired of it. His work would've been a lot easier if they didn't come barging it - he didn't even care about them and yet they're thinking he's out to kill them?

And if they weren't - well, that was an annoying misunderstanding. Almost annoying as the broken entrance door of that house.
"What I want? Nothing you have. So it'd be appreciated if you don't flatter yourself that I want to hurt either of you."

What a troublesome job. He's quadrupling the amount for this. Definitely.

With the immediate threat gone, Dwyrin relaxed and thought through what the man had said. He was a messenger. He was in it for the money. People that are 'in it for the money' don't usually do a thing unless they have to. Espcially not if they might die. She lowered the muzzle to point at the floor.

"Zane, was it?? I'm not sure it's flattery to think someone may want to do us harm" - she wasn't sure about Rei, but there had to plenty of people who didn't wish her well - "but perhaps we do have something you might find interesting." She reached into her clothes and pulled out the folders she had taken from the military base, holding them up in the air so the letters "S.R.A" faced Zane.

Des slumped against the table nearby the cellar door and gripped his head. He shook it a few times and began to slap himself a bit.

"Is this what they call a hangover? God, now I know why drinking is prohibited in the military. I feel like shit."

Des banged his head on the table a few times and moved back to the cellar door. He heard some whisper but it was drowned out by a catchy tune playing in his head.

"Music, in my head. I'm going insane. No more drinking ever. Time to go see Rei."

Des stepped down the stairs carefully gripping the guardrail so he didn't fall. His vision was blurry, body a little wobbly. His head still pounding back and forth. Felt like a drum being constantly beat. He made it to the bottom stare and saw Dwyrin had lowered her gun and Zane was closer to her. Where was Rei he questioned in his head.

"Rei...where ARE you? I want to say sorry. You know that wasn't me. Come on we are frien-."

Des was cut off by his brain banging against his cranium.

"Geez, this hurts."

Rei sighed with relief and slid back down the wall, placing her head on her knees. She hardly cared what these two did as long as she did not have to do anything. Her head was killing her and she just wanted to do nothing.

"Well, maybe find something to drink," she muttered to the gun she held across her lap. She looked up again - too quickly, now her head hurt worse - when she heard someone call her name. "Des?"

She looked around the corner cautiously, seeing the drunk man stumbling toward them. "Sort of."

Zane whistled then smirk. "Now we're talking, Dwyrin," he said as he saw those folders. "Interesting thing you got there."

Zane watched Rei's actions carefully; she looked as if she would pass out at any minute. I have a job right now to spy on Des, he thought and heard a soft thud not far away, he concluded it was Des. But at his state, I have time to entertain Dwyrin.

"Well, how do you want this negotiation to work, hm?" he looked at Dwyrin.

"Simple, really. I'll ask you a couple questions, and for each one you answer, I'll just hand you one of these wonderfully kept files." She turned the little bundle sideways to show him that there were actually three folders together.

Reaching into her clothes once more, she produced a packet the size of her thumbnail and tossed it to Rei. "Here," she said, "This'll help."

Des drew closer to Zane and Dwyrin and Rei respectively. He gripped his head in pain. The hangover really kicking his ass. He yelped and leaned against a wall.

"Zane those are military files, how about you take them from her so we can get out of here, I need to lie down."

Rei caught the package Dwyrin gave her and smiled her thanks. She looked back at Des and rolled her eyes. "Go lie down in one of the rooms upstairs, then. There's plenty of beds up there," she said, looking away from him. "What Zane and Dwyrin do aren't your concern, it would seem, anyway. They're managing fine without you."

He turned to Des and gave a thumb's up lazily. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," and turned his back on him. "So do what Rei said and get some rest. Tomorrow we'll do what you need to. "

Raking a hand on his hair, silently thanking Rei, and finally addressed Dwyrin once more. "All right," he accepted the terms and smiled. "Keep in mind though, if you're trying to fool me, I won't respond as lenient as I am now. So shoot your question."

Dwyrin vaguely wondered if that was a threat, or simply the way he did things.

"You've got to chew it, by the way," she said to Rei, suddenly remembering.

She really only wanted to ask two questions. The third was a back-up, but she needed to think of the proper way to phrase each question as to milk out the most informative answer. The obvious one was 'who are you??' but he had already answered that. He is Zane, the messenger. But who was he?? Bingo.

"Who were you before you were Zane, the Messenger??"

Des pushed off the wall and stood a few feet behind Zane and Dwyrin who still had a gun in hand. He grunted and slapped himself lightly in the face to focus on the situation. He looked at Rei who seemed to be getting better. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. He scribbled some writings on it and tossed it over Zane's shoulder past Dwyrin to where Rei was sitting.

"Take that Rei. I'll see you soon I hope. I have a mission to depart for soon, love for you to join me."

Des smiled and leaned against the last barrel of wine tempted to drink from it.

Rei opened the packet and quickly consumed the contents, thankful for any relief it might give. She let the scrap of paper from Des land on the ground before making any attempts to retrieve it. She held it in her hand, watching those around her a long moment before opening the note and reading it. She was silent as she read, one eyebrow raised, then she looked at Des. "Really?" she asked incredulously, holding up the paper.

Zane blinked then smiled. So she's interested in that kind of information, hm? He expected her to ask about Des' mission since that was her initial question before the talk of a bargain. "That's unexpected," he blurted out. And ignored the paper that flew over his shoulder.

It was a good question really, and he understood just exactly what she was really asking. He walked towards her and stopped right in front of her. "Well, that's easy. I was Zane, a military man," he answered. It may not have been the answer she was looking for but it was an answer to her question. He took a folder from her hands.

"Thanks for this. Second question?" He smiled.

She frowned at him. "Not a very detailed answer. And that was a very detailed folder." Dwyrin decided to let it slide. There was enough of a connection there for it to not have been useless. A person who used to be military - she wished she knew what in the military - turned messenger. Chances were he was here as more than just a delivery-boy.

She stepped backwards and clasped the folders to herself to prevent any more from being grabbed without her consent. Des was right behind her, leaning against a wine barrel, so she moved a bit more to the side to better have both of them in her field of vision. Which put Rei across from her in this oddly shaped sort of diamond. Rei was looking at Des - Perplexed, maybe?? - waving the paper in the air. She'd have to ask about that, later.

"What is your most true objective here??" she asked Zane.

Des waved at Rei and smiled. He knelt down and poured some wine onto his hands and washed his face with it.

"Refreshing. Rei can we talk?"

Rei eyes all three people in the room. Dwyrin was right across from her, her attention focused mostly on Zane. Zane was focused mostly on Dwyrin. Des stood facing Zane, his attention on her. Rei looked back down at the note and sighed. "I'm the world's biggest idiot or something."

She stood up slowly, the butt of the rifle on the floor and the barrel in her hand. In her right hand was the dagger she had stabbed Des with, his blood still on the blade. She was amazed that he was so calm after having a knife forced through his forearm, though she quickly gave that up when she remembered that he had also been shot in the shoulder not long before. She flipped the dagger in the air a few times, catching it by the handle each time, then looked at Des. "We could talk right here where we stand."

Rei should've accepted the walk. Zane sighed to himself. He may not be a good man that lived through honest means but he definitely keeps his word; and a bargain is a bargain. Work is work. Pretty sure Des won't like hearing my answer for Dwyrin's question.

The way they were positioned now was easier for them to view one another.
"No, it's not," he responded to Dwyrin's comment. "But I answered your question, nonetheless. The bargain is I'll answer your question and you'll give me a folder." How I answer it, you'll have to manage on your own.

Zane moved a bit forward, took a chair and promptly sat on it. "My truest objective here?" He had to think things through, telling the truth but phrasing it in a way that would reveal as little as he could. "I am to oversee the mission Des received and report on the commander how he accomplishes it."

He waved his hand, signalling for Dwyrin to toss him a folder.

It was perfect. The whole situation was forming rapidly in her mind. Possibilities floated up, only to be replaced with new ones. Dwyrin considered a third question, but though tbetter of it in the end. She separated each folder into one hand and tossed him the one in the left hand, while once more stowing away the one in her right. "We'll have to do it again sometime," she said with a wolfish grin.

Done with business for the moment, she turned her attention more toward Rei and Des, curious to see about this mission he had mentioned.

Des looked at Rei and her proposition.

"Yeah not here. Somewhere private away from Zane and...'her.'"

Des frowned at Dwyrin and nodded at Zane. He still didn't know what to think of him but he overheard why he was there. Something was going on but he was too out of it to contemplate anything.

Rei continued to flip her dagger, watching Des warily. He still looked as though he was not all there. He claimed to have a hangover, but she could hardly trust that at this point. He also wanted to be separate from Zane and Dwyrin, something she felt to be somewhat foolish given his state. "Definitely an idiot."

Holding the dagger held firmly in her hand, she made her way closer to Des. She wondered for a moment if the rifle she had grabbed had any ammunition, but pushed the thought from her mind. "Stab and run if necessary."

She stopped a few feet from Des, Dwyrin and Zane still in her sight. She half crossed her arms and looked at the man, waiting for him to make the next move, but ready to move should she need to.

Zane sighed and caught the folder. "And why not finish it with the third? Is it so important - that folder - that you can't give it to me?" Honestly, he didn't really care for too much but any kind of information for or against the military was his business. Just so being in the upper hand, that is.

Whatever Des wanted to do was fine with him - he couldn't restrict the guy because that would mean restricting whatever information he could get. What he told Dwyrin wasn't a lie.
