"No kidding," Rei groaned, removing her coat. She rolled up her left sleeve and held that arm in front of her. She touched the back of her hand and electricity flared off her automail, giving off light without ever reaching out and electrifying anything. "Shall we, then?"

Ace stared at her arm, mystified. "Wow, that was cool," Ace nodded and pointed to her to lead the way. "So, how's life?"

Rei walked ahead, arm out to light as much of the area as she could. "It's alright, I suppose," she muttered, examining the walls of the cave to find some evidence of... "What am I looking for?"

"Civilization!" Ace said. "Markings of any kind would be great. Like, that one!" Ace pointed to a random symbol on the wall.

Rei glared at Ace. "Freaking read my mind," she thought, annoyed.

"Well, looks like we have evidence that somebody at some point was in this cave."

"It's truly something," Ace teared up. "Humans really are something."

Rei rolled her eyes as her sarcasm flew right over Ace's head. "Yeah, amazing," she agreed, though for different reasons. She watched the path ahead of her, watching for any dips in the road, then stopped. "Do you hear that? It sounds like a river or something?"

Ace listened. "I do hear something."

Ace jumped to the ground and put his hands over his head. "Avalanche again!"

Rei rolled here eyes. "No, it sounds like a river, not an avalanche," she said. She moved forward, looking for any sign of where this river might be. She though she saw light farther down the tunnel, so she dropped her arm, alchemy fizzling into darkness. There was indeed a yellow-orange light ahead.

"Oh. That's good, the avalanches were like, not my thing!" Ace decided. "What's that light?"

"That's what we're going to go find out," Rei said, making her way down the tunnel. The sound - it was slower than a river, Rei realized - grew louder, the light grew brighter, and the heat increased dramatically. They rounded a corner to find a large river of lava flowing across the only path through the tunnel.

Ace followed Rei into the mysterious cavern. What he saw made him jump.

"I hate lava!" Ace yelled as he stared into the room. He froze up. Couldn't move.

Rei watched the lava flow for a few moments, smiling in the warmth and glow of the molten rock. She turned to Ace and smiled sweetly. "Well, looks like our journey ends here if you're too scared to find a way across."

Ace balled up into a corner. "There's this pain in my chest when I see lava..."

Rei stared hard at the man curled up on the floor of the cave, then sighed. "Close your eyes and I'll get you across," she muttered.

Ace looked at her, a bit unwary of the surprise friendliness, but did as told. He knew she wouldn't drop him into Lava, even if part of her probably wanted to.

Rei rolled her eyes and walked to the edge of the lava. Even for her, it was overly warm. She gripped her coat tightly and placed her hand at the edge of the lava. A column of earth rose out of the ground, carrying her across to the other side. She turned and face the side she had just come from and smiled as the earth collapsed into the lava, leaving Ace on the other side with no immediate way across.

Rei sat on a makeshift chair she created out of the ground and smiled, watching Ace.

Rei stared at him and changed her mind. She removed the chair and yelled across the river. "Hey, Ace! You can open your eyes. I got you across. You can go ahead. I'll wait over here for you to come back."

Ace opened his eyes and saw that she had left him for dead. He curled up into a corner and stared at the lava. "Typical," Ace grumbled.

Rei cocked an eyebrow, surprised that he had realized he had not changed sides. "Smarter than I give him credit for or something," she thought, frowning. She shrugged and knelt down. A column of earth rose beneath Ace and flung him into the air far and high enough to get over the river.

Ace screamed and flung his arms in all directions. He caught a stalagmite (? is that what the ones hanging high are?) And held onto it above the cave and started screaming and crying.

Rei slapped her forehead with her right hand. "Idiot," she muttered.

"Just let go," she called to him, hand still flat on the ground. "You're hardly that far up. You couldn't get hurt unless you landed on your head."

Ace let go and hit himself on the forehead.
