Ace slowly sat up and looked around. "Hi..." Ace waved shakily to Rei.

Rei nodded and turned away, throwing her coat over her shoulder. "Come on," she said. "I have a feeling we have a long way to go before we find the end of this place."

Ace followed Rei through the caverns. His adventurous spirit was quite soldily shot.

Rei continued walking in silence, waiting for Ace to shout some random idiotic statement or doing something stupid. When nothing happened, she looked back to find him trudging along as she had been earlier.

"I think I broke him."

After walking for a bit in total darkness, and walking into walls more than a couple times, Dwyrin stopped and pulled off her ring. She shaped it into as thin rod, as long as possible, and heated the end until it glowed. It wasn't much but if she held it down by her knees she could at least make sure she didn't walk off any cliffs.

She wasn't sure how long she was walking when she noticed the floor changed. Just like the wall had before, the stone got smoother, and the corners where the wall met the ground weren't as rough and curved as they should be. Someone had made a home here before.

Rei jumped at the sudden sound of Ace's voice. It had been incredibly silent for a long time. "Forward," Rei said, pointing ahead of them. "There's no other paths to follow."

She was pretty deep in the cave system now, and hopelessly lost. Of course she was. And she couldn't even be sure she wasn't going around in circles, since she couldn't really see. Then, her left foot came into contact with nothing, and she felt herself falling.

"You're the one asking me to change the layout of a tunnel in a mountain," Rei snapped. She continued to lead them forward, walking a little faster to find the end of their path sooner.

When she collected her wits - after who knows how long - the first thing she heard was the word 'piracy' cominf from somewhere up the tunnel. Then the footsteps.

"Hey!" she sat up attempting to blink the stars from her head, and waited for a response.

Rei stopped and listened, trying to figure out what she had just heard. "Did someone just yell at us?" she said softly, trying to keep her voice from traveling very far. She had no idea if she had actually heard the voice or if she had imagined it.

There was no answer. Perhaps she had still been dazed from her fall, she thought, and hadn't heard what she thought she had. She didn't want to stand and walk around yet, her ankle hurt, and she was still dizzy. But she did.
And almost collapsed. She would have, had it not been for the wall. It would be slow going, this way. She stopped to catch her breath and heard what she could swear were footsteps.

She called out again. "Oi! I won't pay rent if I die down here!"

"Don't tell me you didn't hear that?" Rei said, rolling her eyes. She cupped her right hand around her mouth and called out, "Dwyrin? Where are you?" She mentally chided herself for that comment. "'In a tunnel!'" she mimicked.

Ace rushed past Rei. "I'm coming for you bar mone- er, Dwyrin my lady!"

Relieved, she heard Rei shout. She looked around - not that she could see anything - and answered, "I don't know!! A tunnel?? A big one! But I think we're on a different level!" she found that if she yelled in an upward direction her voice carried without the use of her hands.

A second after the echo of her voice died down, she heard a noise above her, and a few tiny somethings fell from above her. Looking up she saw the outline of the rock of the ceiling. The fact that she could see it meant there was a light source up there. She hoped it was Rei.

Rei watched as Ace vanished into the darkness. She would have followed, but she needed to figure out where Dwyrin's voice was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from below her, so Dwyrin's theory could be correct. She held her left hand closer to the ground, illuminating it better. It appeared to have a lot of cracks in it; she hoped it was really thick.

"Don't suppose you have any ideas how to figure out where below us you are? I can use alchemy to open a hole between the floors." She smiled at the memories that brought up.

Ace had hurried down the hallway and realized he had no idea where to go. He also realized the floor beneath him had become sturdier. "Stone?" Ace questioned. "Hm," Ace thought to himself as he patted the walls.
